Davidson Marine Services 

Davidson Marine Services is a local Tasmanian company based out of the beautiful coastal town of Kettering. It was formed in 2018 by father and son team Saul and Mick Davidson.

Mick Davidson, Founding Partner and Executive Director

Mick has been sailing the oceans for over 30 years. He built his own 40’ yacht and has cruised most of the Australian coastline. He spent 5 years working in the Australian tropics as a charter and dive boat skipper punctuated with voyages to Antarctica. The Antarctic has been a major part of Mick’s life since he first spent 8 months in 1992 working at Casey Station for the Australian Antarctic Division. He has since returned to the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic islands over 30 times. Mick has worked in various capacities for the Australian Antarctic Division including: Voyage Watercraft Coordinator, Barge Skipper, Station Boating Officer, Carpenter, Plant Operator and Rigger. Mick recently returned from a 50-day voyage to Antarctic waters where he was the skipper of a blue whale tagging boat, the first in the world to place GPS trackers on Antarctic blue whales.

In 2001 Mick started working in Antarctic tourism. He has since participated in multiple trips to Antarctica showing people the delights of this continent. The areas he has visited in this capacity include the Ross Sea, the Antarctic Peninsula and a multitude of sub-Antarctic islands. Mick work history also includes working for the Australian Antarctic Division as its Watercraft Coordinator. This job included overseeing of the small boat operations in Antarctica, the overseeing of the resupply support vessels, the acquisition and maintenance of these vessels and the training of the watercraft operators used in the Australian Antarctic program.

Saul Davidson, Founding Partner, Managing Director

Saul experience with boating started when he got home from hospital after being born. His mother Katrina and father Mick had been living on their cruising yacht for 19 years before he came along so you could say it is in his blood. He skipper his first 16 foot inflatable boat at the age of 3 and his parents found it very hard to get him out of a variety of vessels around the southern coast of Tasmania ever since. In 2018 Saul his commercial skippers qualification and has since worked skippering a variety of sailing and motor vessels on the southeast and southwest coasts of Tasmania.
